What is the difference between a helpdesk and a service desk?
“A helpdesk focuses on restoring a broken service, such as a failed login or a crashed application. A service desk takes a broader view, treating IT as a service to the business and aligning requests with business needs. Many small organizations use the terms interchangeably.”

“Common measures include average response time, average resolution time, first-contact resolution rate, and customer satisfaction surveys. The exact mix depends on what the business values most, whether that is speed, thoroughness, or user experience.”

“Outsourcing tends to help when an organization needs 24-hour coverage, has limited in-house staff, or wants access to a wider skill set than it can hire directly. It also works for organizations that want predictable monthly costs in place of a large internal team.”
