What does the back office of an architecture or construction firm actually cover?
“Everything that keeps the practice running and none of which is billable. Bookkeeping and month-end close.”
View in the company profileHow does this work alongside our CPA or accounting firm?
“They do different jobs, and the split is clean. Your CPA firm handles tax planning and filing, any audit or review engagement, and the advice that carries their professional responsibility.”
View in the company profileWhich back office role do firms usually hire first?
“Whichever one a principal is currently doing at night. In practice it is one of three.”
View in the company profileHow is access to our systems and our data controlled?
“By your IT policy, and by the principle of least privilege. Access is granted by you, in your own systems, at the level the role actually needs.”
View in the company profileFull time, part time or flex: how do firms decide?
“By how predictable the work is, not by how much of it there is. A role with steady daily volume, like bookkeeping in a firm of any size or an assistant supporting several people, works full time.”
